Girls win cup!
The QHL wishes to congratulate the California Girls to their first Stanley Cup win!

It was a dramatic ending where the winner was not declared until the very last game of the season. After both St. Louis and Washington had been ruled out of the competition it was up to Tampa Bay and California to fight it out.
With the Lightning only reaching a tie in their last game the Girls had to win their or get a tie against the Detroit Red Wings in order to win the Cup. Otherwise Tampa Bay would win with exactly the same point, exactly the same amount of games won but with a better plus goals statistics.

The game against the Red Wings started off with a bang with both teams getting scoring chances from left and right, but it was the Girls who drew first blood and scored after 12:26 with a goal from Hayden Panettiere. 5 minutes later Meredith Salenger scored again to secure their lead to 2-0.
The Red Wings tried to break through the defense lines and managed to rack up some really good scoring chances but was denied over and over again by Olivia Wilde in the California net. Detroit forwards Riley Sheahan and Darren Helm were prominent in their attacks with 5 and 7 shots respectively but were held scoreless by the California defense and their outstanding goaltending.
After 3:31 in the second period the Girls scored yet again. This time from Jennifer Love-Hewitt, making it 3-0, a result that lasted to the end of the game which gave the California Girls their first Stanley Cup victory ever.
